Two-port network: Image impedances

In summary, a two-port network is an electrical network with two pairs of terminals used for signal transmission and processing. Image impedances are equivalent input and output impedances seen by ports when other ports are terminated. They are calculated using scattering parameters and are important for analyzing network performance. They can be adjusted by changing components or characteristic impedances for optimal performance.

Homework Statement

If we have a two-port network, a source with impedance Zs and a load with impedance Zl, I think that the conjugate of Zg and Zl (normal, not conjugated) should be equal to the image impedances of the network.

The problem is that I was told that instead of the conjugate of Zg the normal complex number Zg should be used.

Which is the correct method?

I think that the conjugate of Zg should be used since the image impedances are also conjugates of the source and load impedances.

Related to Two-port network: Image impedances

1. What is a two-port network?

A two-port network is a type of electrical network that has two pairs of terminals, each with an input and an output, and is characterized by its input and output impedances. It is commonly used in electronic systems and devices for signal transmission and processing.

2. What are image impedances in a two-port network?

Image impedances refer to the equivalent input and output impedances that are seen by the input and output ports of a two-port network, respectively, when all other ports are terminated by their respective characteristic impedances. They are important parameters in analyzing the performance of a two-port network.

3. How are image impedances calculated?

The calculation of image impedances in a two-port network involves using the network's scattering parameters and the characteristic impedances of the input and output ports. The formulas for calculating the image impedances can vary depending on the type of two-port network and its configuration.

4. What is the significance of image impedances in a two-port network?

Image impedances play a crucial role in the design and analysis of two-port networks. They help in determining the amount of power that is transferred between the input and output ports, as well as the level of mismatch between the network and its load. They also affect the stability and performance of the network.

5. How can image impedances be adjusted in a two-port network?

The image impedances in a two-port network can be adjusted by modifying the network's components, such as resistors, capacitors, and inductors, or by changing the characteristic impedances of the input and output ports. Proper adjustment of image impedances is important for optimizing the performance of the network.
