In summary, the conversation discussed which songs were performed, arranged, or produced better in a cover than the original version. They also debated which songs should have been left alone and whether restricting covers to released singles limits interesting comparisons. The discussion also touched on the subjectivity of judging which version is "better" and the importance of adding something unique to a cover. Examples of good and unnecessary covers were also mentioned. Overall, the conversation highlighted the different interpretations and emotions that can be evoked by a cover compared to the original version.

Usually, I think cover versions of my favorite songs are rubbish. But,...

ain't bad.

Here's the original:

It's very hard to surpass Mike Oldfield's masterful guitar work.

【English Cover】Seraphim On The Ring/リングの熾天使 【Saki + Lunarveil】

There really are guys who hand out leaflets offering sleazy employment. There are even big floats mounted on flatbed sound trucks doing the same, driving around areas where young people gather.

I saw some Japanese pro wrestling at a jocular heavy metal festival called Skull Mania. They did all of this stuff. It's all quite stylized. I attended to see Bandmaid. They were so embarrassed to appear there they didn't advertise the gig on their web site. There was a young J woman in a business suit and pumps with a big smile playing the organ part of Deep Purple's Highway Star. There is a van sold in Japan named the Highway Star.

Kim Gun Mo's massive hit Wrongful Meeting.

Cover by Ayumi. These sort of elaborate sets with dance are typical of east Asian TV. Song and dance are so important there that in recent Indonesian presidential election rallies candidate Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono sang while incumbent Megawati danced. Bambang won.

It's impressive that Kim could hit such high notes. In a subsequent TV appearance he seems to have lost this ability but the song was so popular he just let the audience sing those parts. Last week Mick Jagger did the same with Out Of Time.

There are dangerous levels of melodrama radiating off that song. I see why it was a hit, though - I keep humming it because I don't understand the words.

Original. This is a demo. The originally released version isn't that good.

The version by the ten year old girl in the Yamaha Stagea competition is the best but I already posted that.

I have to agree with you on that. I really liked her first folk, bluegrass and country song singing too.
