In summary, when 27 identical cubes are glued together to form a cubical stack and one cube is omitted, there are four distinct shapes that are possible: one with the omitted cube at a corner, one with it at the middle of an edge, one with it at the middle of a side, and one with it at the core. If two cubes are omitted instead of just one, the number of distinct shapes possible is dependent on the type of equivalence used, such as rigid motions or isometries.

Suppose 27 identical cubes are glued together to form a cubical stack. If one of the small cubes is omitted, four distinct shapes are possible; one in which the omitted cube is at a corner of the stack, one in which it is at the middle of an edge of the stack, one in which it is at the middle of a side of the stack, and one in which it is at the core of the stack. If two of the small cubes are omitted rather than just one, how many distinct shapes are possible?

Distinct up to what, rigid motions, i.e., shapes s,s' are equivalent if s' can be obtained
from s by a sequence of rigid motions? Maybe isometries, etc.?

Related to 27 faceted cube: 2 omitted

1. What is a 27 faceted cube?

A 27 faceted cube is a geometric shape that has 27 flat, polygonal faces. It is also known as a cuboctahedron or an rhombicuboctahedron.

2. What does it mean for a 27 faceted cube to have 2 omitted?

Having 2 omitted means that out of the 27 faces of the cube, 2 are missing. This can create an asymmetrical shape, depending on which faces are omitted.

3. How many edges does a 27 faceted cube with 2 omitted have?

A 27 faceted cube with 2 omitted will have 50 edges. Each face of the cube has 4 edges, and with 2 faces omitted, there will be a total of 50 edges.

4. What are some real-world examples of 27 faceted cubes with 2 omitted?

Some real-world examples of 27 faceted cubes with 2 omitted include certain types of crystals, such as the garnet crystal or the yag crystal. These shapes can also be found in various architectural designs, such as domes or buildings with octagonal or hexagonal windows.

5. How is a 27 faceted cube with 2 omitted different from a regular cube?

A regular cube has 6 faces, while a 27 faceted cube has 27 faces. Additionally, a regular cube has 12 edges, while a 27 faceted cube with 2 omitted has 50 edges. The shape and symmetry of the two cubes are also different, with the 27 faceted cube having more complex and asymmetrical features.
