What is Technology: Definition and 498 Discussions
Technology ("science of craft", from Greek τέχνη, techne, "art, skill, cunning of hand"; and -λογία, -logia) is the sum of techniques, skills, methods, and processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation. Technology can be the knowledge of techniques, processes, and the like, or it can be embedded in machines to allow for operation without detailed knowledge of their workings. Systems (e.g. machines) applying technology by taking an input, changing it according to the system's use, and then producing an outcome are referred to as technology systems or technological systems.
The simplest form of technology is the development and use of basic tools. The prehistoric invention of shaped stone tools followed by the discovery of how to control fire increased sources of food. The later Neolithic Revolution extended this, and quadrupled the sustenance available from a territory. The invention of the wheel helped humans to travel in and control their environment.
Developments in historic times, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale.
Technology has many effects. It has helped develop more advanced economies (including today's global economy) and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products known as pollution and deplete natural resources to the detriment of Earth's environment. Innovations have always influenced the values of a society and raised new questions in the ethics of technology. Examples include the rise of the notion of efficiency in terms of human productivity, and the challenges of bioethics.
Philosophical debates have arisen over the use of technology, with disagreements over whether technology improves the human condition or worsens it. Neo-Luddism, anarcho-primitivism, and similar reactionary movements criticize the pervasiveness of technology, arguing that it harms the environment and alienates people; proponents of ideologies such as transhumanism and techno-progressivism view continued technological progress as beneficial to society and the human condition.
I am starting grade 11 semester 2 and already in the first few days it's time to choose our grade 12 courses, so I have to decide what I want to go to university for to get my prerequisites down , and I haven't been able to see what chemistry and biology are like beyond what I learned in...
I need some topics to write about for my research paper. I'm writing about how computer science and technology both force the other to expand. The 3 examples I'm writing about now are hardware/processor enabled security (ie I'm comparing 16bit x86 which had no security to 32bit which did)...
hello guys,
I am planning to do some higher education diploma in technology. I live in east london. I can't afford university fees.
Can anyone suggest me some good college.
thanks
What is the difference? My school only offers the technology one. It says you can still take the exams to become a licensed engineer. Will this make an impact job wise? Good or bad?
I've recently become aware of such things where they look at a new technology and try to trace back all the research (both basic and directed) that went into it and the relative amounts of each and such. Specifically I've read about one in the 1960's called TRACES (technology in retrospect and...
What is the difference between the two different degrees, I have only been able to find a few different college websites where they describe the differences but the two different websites had different information on them.

For example, a program like the one below. I'm graduating in May with a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics Minor. I'm looking at all the options I have. I'm just wondering if this degree or ones like it are worth the time. I don't know anything about the University of Central Missouri, though...
So I have plans to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona in Southern California next year. They offer a bachelors of science in engineering technology. I thought this sounded like a trade school degree until I spoke to one of the professors in that department. He made it seem that this degree was...
If you went back in time and brought with you modern day devices, could you teach the people of that day (to a certain extent) how to create and use these devices?
What impact would this have the modern day? Would we be more evolved?

I have a small dilemma, so I though I'd ask the geniuses at the physics forum! I dream of becoming of Theoretical Physicist but am recently wondering how much experience do Theoretical Physicists get from working with technology.

Hello
I am finishing my physics degree and I am interested in doing postgraduate study in the area of nuclear physics. I was thinking about doing the course mentioned in the title, which is offered at the University of Birmingham. Does anyone know anything about this course, or other courses...
So at my school they have Electronic Engineering Technology & Electrical Engineering. However, the EET program is ABET accredited but the EE is not. They have the option of completing the EET degree then taking an additional 36 credits for the EE degree. So I'd have an ABET accredited degree...

Hi!
Can anyone (or everyone) explain to me some areas of information technology and what jobs exist there? It's one of my few options and I would like to know more about it. What kind of jobs there and your opinion about that career in future?
Thanks in advance.

Why is there no low cost space launch technology? The cost to buy the energy (in the form of electricity) required is very low (don't have the number on me).
I want to ask if it is possible to remotely monitor and alter the signals of the brain of an individual and whether this require the use of some sort of electronic neuroimplant or not.
Would be interesting to know if and how this can be done without the use of an implant. (Because seems to me...

This is so pathetic. I don't think the average worker should get their pay cut due to bungling politicians. What I do think is that the people that can't seem to do their job and get this fiasco fixed should have their pay stopped as an incentive to actually do something.
