Hey all,

I'm considering to take an industrial and/or systems engineering degree online, as the nature of my current work doesn't permit me to attend university on a regular daily basis. I would appreciate any advice or sharing any experience with online education.

While I was at uni, I finished three calculus courses, differential equations, two physics courses with calculus, and have credits for a chemistry course, which could be counted towards an engineering degree at my school.

Thanks in advance,

I can definitely understand your dilemma and desire to continue your education while balancing a full-time job. Online education can be a great option for those who are unable to attend university on a regular basis. Here are a few things to consider when pursuing an industrial and/or systems engineering degree online:

1. Accreditation: It is important to make sure that the online program you are considering is accredited by a reputable organization. This ensures that the program meets certain standards and that your degree will be recognized by employers.

2. Curriculum: Look into the curriculum of the program and make sure it aligns with your career goals and interests. Industrial and systems engineering is a broad field, so you want to make sure the program covers the specific areas you are interested in.

3. Faculty and Support: Research the faculty members who will be teaching the online courses and their qualifications. It is also important to know what kind of support services are available for online students, such as tutoring, career counseling, and technical support.

4. Time Management: Online education requires a lot of self-discipline and time management. Make sure you have a schedule in place to balance your work, studies, and personal life.

5. Interaction and Networking: One potential downside of online education is the lack of face-to-face interaction with classmates and professors. Look for programs that offer opportunities for virtual networking and collaboration, as this can enhance your learning experience and help build professional connections.

Based on your previous coursework, it seems like you have a strong foundation in math and science, which are essential for an engineering degree. Make sure to also brush up on your programming skills, as many industrial and systems engineering programs require knowledge of programming languages such as Python or MATLAB.

I hope this helps and wish you all the best in your pursuit of an online industrial and/or systems engineering degree. With dedication and hard work, I am sure you will be successful in achieving your academic and career goals.
